Buddy Rich Itinerary - April 1980

WooHoo!  Disneyland - March 29-April 5.  Disneyland was always a great gig, because we stayed at the Hollywood Roosevelt and, more importantly, Buddy stayed at his house.  So it was one of the few times we could bring wives, significant others on the bus.

Dig the price of a double room  - $31.  I'm assuming that's a band price for the privilege of having a bunch of jazz misfits wandering the Hotel Roosevelt. and especially the great pool they had there.

Also, the Great American Music Hall in SF.  The scary thing is that I remember a lot of these gigs.

To pay for it later in the month, we did some of the longest drives I can ever remember in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming.

Here's a street billboard that was out in front of Bogart's in Richmond, VA, the club where we recorded One Man's Blues.  I looked at it every night for three nights and never noticed that we were billed as The Jazzmanics instead of the Jazzmaniacs.  After what went down on the thrid night, it may be appropos (a long but interesting story I'll tell you sometime)

Bruce Hornsby and Bonny Raitt. When I worked with Bruce, we did a VH1 Center Stage special and Bonny guested with the band.  Lot's of fun!  They later made a video of "Rainbow's Cadillac" and played it on VH1.  I actually had a bari solo which they left in.  I wish I could get a copy of that!

Heres a pictue from the ONE STEP DOWN, a great club in Washington, DC.  Unfortunately, this was one of the last pics from the club.  We closed the place down in July 2000.  After the gig on Saturday, the owner informed us that we were the last band to play there, as the club was closing.  A big loss for the DC jazz scene.

CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!! CAUTION!!!

DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IS YOU ARE OFFENDED BY PROFANITY!!!!  THE BUDDY TAPE AND COMIC BOOK ARE PROFANITY-LACED (AS WAS BUDDY).

Here's the first page of the fantastic comic book which follows along with the tape (and also adds some ingenious commentary)

Here's a great version of Cute laced with choice profanities from the tape.  X-Rated but quite well done.
